Quick Tip: Start a New Topic.....or Respond to an Old One?
We have years worth of accumulated chow tips, and we encourage you to search through that back discussion, since there's so much useful info there!
But if you want to renew discussion of an old subject, it's best to start a new topic, for several reasons:
1. Many users see topics sorted by date started, rather than by latest reply (that's the default setting). If you reply to an old thread, they probably won't see your new posting...which means they'll miss the info (and we'll all miss their input!).
2. This software makes it a bit confusing to navigate really long discussion threads. So it's best to have a few shorter discussions rather than a single big monster discussion.
3. It's good for the site to keep doing fresh discussion of old topics. We realize that the small minority of users who read us daily (which includes the Chowhound Team and I!) find this repetitious. But repetition is good, because fresh new discussion of old topics draws out fresh new opinions from new chowhounds who've come along (and elicits new info from old ones). This is how we keep our info cutting-edge.
4. we have a good search engine now, so it's easy (in most cases) for users to find various mentions of a topic (note: if you have trouble finding something, just ask other users for help....someone will remember where stuff is, almost guaranteed!).

Great, now how do I find 'em? See my post July 21. Cannot get 'control f' to work either.
Please give me the secret tip. Many thanks.
I posted a review of a place, it got 0 replies (that's ok I'm not complaining about that). It's been 3 weeks since that post, and I ate there again today and would like to post another review, different dishes and slightly different overall rating. If I follow Jim's advice I'll be posting a new topic (yes I know I can add a link referencing the old topic). But my instinct tells me to post a reply to the old post since it's only been 3 weeks. So I'm not sure what to do.
