Romantic Italian in midtown West?

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. My husband and I are having some friends from Florida visiting us late in July to celebrate an anniversary. They've said they want to have Italian, and since their hotel is in midtown West, they would like something within walking distance. Any good suggestions? Thanks!
Perhaps ViceVersa (325 W 51st St)? Haven't been in a while, but I remember it being enjoyable with a pretty attractive room.
I have never managed to get to Barbetta, but my brother (whose opinion on food I value) and his wife had an anniversary dinner there not long ago and were extremely pleased with the cuisine and ambiance. The restaurant, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is located in a townhouse on 46th St., b/t 8th & 9th Avs., aka Restaurant Row. As one can see from website photos, the interior is quite beautiful and elegant. A major plus: weather permitting, there's a gorgeous, romantic garden. Overall, looks to me like the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Note: To avoid the pre-theater rush and crush, reserve for after 8 p.m.
