Cooking Lessons/Classes for 14 year old?

bobby06877 Jul 11, 2006 04:33 PM

I have a 14 year old daughter that is an aspiring chef. She is fascinated with cooking and spends a lot of time reading and watching anything food related. She has asked me if there was anyplace that would offer cooking classes for someone her age. I believe the New School has some courses but I need to check into their age requirements. Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Institute of Culinary education offers some parent/kid classes. It looks like they are all one time classes though, not ongoing.

At 14, I suspect your daughter might enjoy any of the adult courses. It sounds as thought she may be too advanced for some of the "kid" courses, although I think that ICE or the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park might offer some "teenager" courses.

ICE has a few teen courses but I'm sure she'd do fine in the Techiniques of Fine Cooking Course (5 classes). I don't think there is an age requirement but I'm not sure.
