Chow in Hamilton Heights

Dear Hounds--

I'm moving to Hamilton Heights shortly (140s betwixt Riverside and Broadway), and I'm wondering what to expect by way of chow. Not much, my investigation thus far seems to indicate. There's Charles's Southern Kitchen, I know, and the much despised Dinosaur BBQ; but man cannot live on fried chicken and barbecue alone (at least not without clogging his arteries). So I'm hoping some of you may know of some hidden treasures in my future nabe. Any and all tips very much appreciated.

Best,

T

Thanks to all for the recs. I actually don't relocate for a few more months at least, but I'm glad to know I can look forward to a few good eats.

Oh, and Alan, I personally enjoy Dinosaur every now and then; but the majority sentiment on the board seems to be anti-Dino for some reason. De gustibus non est dispuntandem, I suppose.

    Cheers to all.

One great mexican place you should definitely check out is El Toro Partido, on Broadway between 139th and 140th. Tacos, moles, huaraches...all very good.

No reason to despise dinosaur as far as I'm concerned first of all. I like food hut for Jamaican, on Amsterdam between 145 and 144 and also Sunshine Kitchen 145 and St. Nick (take out only). La Flor de Broadway on 137 and B'way makes a killer cubano. Fish sandwich or some fried shrimp at Devins on St Nick at 147 is another place I hit fairly often. There are a couple of Mexican places just north of 145 on Amsterdam that are serviceable (not Jesus taco) there is occaisionally a taco truck right around there as well, but they are not my favorite. For a little more upscale, there is a new place in the old Sugar Hill Bistro spot and Earl Monroe's place in Riverbank state park, but I have not visited either yet. Plenty of stuff on B'way north and south of you to explore, some of it must be worth eating, so let us know what you find.
