Billy's Grill "Exotiic" Burgers

Bob Brooks Jul 10, 2006 11:04 PM

Has anyone tried their exotic bugers, i.e. buffalo, venison or ostrich? Any of them worth trying?

I stick with the basic hamburger. Too good to change. I have been tempted but the price difference and the fact that the burger is fantastic keep me with the beef burger bargin.

However, on two occasions I have talked with other patrons. One had the Lamb and the other the Ostrich. Both really liked them and came back specifically for them.

    The fries are amazing too.

Would this be Billy's Grill, at 5162 Van Nuys Blvd, (818) 783-6317, in Sherman Oaks? What kind of place is it, and do they have turkey burgers as well as other exotica?

That's it. You order at the counter and they call you when it's ready. The place is tiny, barely seats 10 people and not comfortably at that. Good burgers though. Been there a long time.

I like the buffalo burger and the ostrich. Been meaning to try the Ahi burger.

I actually *just* came back from Billy's and was going to post about it, but you've already started the thread so... I'll just stay here. :)

Was car shopping on Van Nuys Blvd. (is there something like Chowhound for cars? my.... that would be a LIFESAVER!) and got hungry, so I went to Billy's and ordered the buffalo burger, well-done.

The meat was excellent (like beef, only a bit softer and a richer taste), and was topped with a bit of relish, mustard, ketchup and hot sauce (!! YES:)). The lettuce and tomato were cool and crisp on the burger. The bun wasn't the best I've ever had, but it worked well with the rest of the ingredients. If you're used to the standard beef burger, give the buffalo a shot; it's great.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the fries. I'll be letting you guys know how those are the next time I go out.

Billy's makes a great burger and a good fry. Are they cheap? No. But I have a small addiction to the lamb burger, so what choice do I have? I've got a monkey on my back, and it's made of delicious lamb.

I eat there regularly ... can't get enough of their fine ostrich burger!

I was in the area yesterday and on the recommendation of my fellow chowhounds I had to try this place... it did not disappoint! This has to be one of the best little hamburger joints around town, the cheeseburger was so flavorful, incredible thousand island dressing with fresh red onion, good not great fries but the burger more than made up for it, I will be back and soon! Next: the buffalo and lamb burgers...

Billy's Grill makes excellent burgers. I love the ostrich burger as well as the regular beef burgers. Friendly staff too.
