Greetings all,

On the 4th. of July, we had a wonderful al fresco dinner at DebbieW and Michael's home. Debbie whipped up a large pitcher of a drink she'd read about within Chowhound, called "Pegu Club Cocktail". A gin drinker, I'm not, but I thought that with the other components, I might be able to find some enjoyment from this different type of drink. Well- - -I couldn't get past the smell of gin, and I never even tasted it. So that night it was Vodka gimlets, and the rest of the party loved those Pegu's. Last night Debbie and Michael came to our home for an outdoor pizza cook, and I decided to whip up Pegu's for them, and for me- - -I whipped up Pegu's, using Vodka instead of the Gin. Wonderful is my definition of this cocktail, and now I have a way of pleasing everyone. By the way, detailed obsessed Jeffy looked up the definition of how much a dash of bitters measures out to. A dash is equivalent to 1/16th. to a scant 1/8th. of a teaspoon.

I'm convinced that Pegu Club Cocktails are *the* perfect summer drink. Changing the base spirit of a drink changes the drink entirely; do try it with a milder gin such as Bombay Sapphire some time. I think you'll be quite pleased, especially if it's one of those days that's so hot that all you want to do is lie languidly on the sofa and watch the fan overhead spin slow circles.

Incidentally, if you take the bitters out of your modified Pegu Club Cocktail, you have a Kamikaze. And switch out the vodka for tequila... tah-dah, you have the classic Margarita.
