Wonderful Portuguese Cuisine in Manchester, CT

For an authentic taste of old-country Portugal, head over to Oak Street Pub & Restaurant in Manchester, CT. A wide variety of traditional gems on the menu, along with a smart and simple Portuguese-style interior, will welcome you with a true feeling of being in Portugal. Service is prompt and friendly and a fine selection of Portuguese wines are offered.

Our favorite appetizer was their Caldo Verde--Kale soup, which we admitted outdid our Grandmother's version that has been handed down through generations. Also, just as amazing, were the fresh cod and potatoe cakes, deep fried to a golden perfection. Paella was made with absolutely fresh and generous amounts of seafood, cooked to perfection. Carne de pork alentjeno was a poem.

Dessert was equally impressive with the best Pudding Flan this side of the Atlantic. Fried Bananas covered in chocolate, a traditional Portuguese delight, topped off an evening of gastronomical pleasures, leaving us nostalgic for the mainland. As we sipped our Espresso's, seasoned with traditional Portuguese 'sucra', we took in the sounds of Portugal drifting throughout the dining room, as many Portuguese families chattered happily, lingering over their relaxing meal - - what better stamp of approval can there be?

Extensive menu, huge portions at reasonable prices - - Oak Street Pub & Restaurant is a must for the casual night out. And with the promise of live Fado music planned for the coming months, this Portuguese restaurant is not to be missed.

No, I do not know the owners but I am Portuguese!

I went there for the first time, yesterday. Great food, very authentic. Haven't had that great a meal in a long time.

The cook, I learned, is fresh from Portugal, and trained in the art of traditional Portuguese cuisine.

I highly recommend this place. Thanks for noting it. Looking forward to the Fado.
