Great eats near MSG

I'll be staying with some friends at the newly renovated Ramada Inn in August and it backs up to MSG. I need some suggestions for quality food at good price in the area. I'm not looking for fast food as the area is a magnet for it. Want a well-reviewed place for a Firday night "experience". All suggestions welcome! And let me know if I need to make any reservations at the place you may recommend. Thanks in advance.

    If you're looking for something other than Korean, I think your best bet is to go to a place like 11 Madison Park, on 24 St. and Madison Av. How much are you looking to spend?

      $20 to $25 per person I would think would be reasonable. As long as it's within walking distance of MSG then I'd consider it.

        If I am thinking of the same Eleven Madison Park that is being referred to, then EMP is not anywhere near Madison Square Garden that the OP had asked about.

        Nonetheless, EMP is a good place for any meal.

          Distance is relative. For a New Yorker like me, EMP is within easy walking distance of MSG. That said, for dinner, it prices out Bnladiesfan by a factor of about 3.

              I'd call it Nouvelle American, but I'm not sure if that gets the point across. It's French-influenced American food with excellent ingredients. I've been several times in the last few years and liked it, but I haven't been there since their new chef was hired, and I've been reading just glowing reports of his cuisine on eGullet.

        Another suggestion please... these folks are whitebread Americans...think Midwest. Not really looking for American, but Korean BBQ might be too far "out there". However I will consider it. Thanks

          My family are all whitebread Americans from the Midwest and they love Korean BBQ. I think it is very compatable to American tastes. But I understand, some people are just picky.

          To keep with the BBQ theme you could try Blue Smoke on 27th between Park & Lex. Decent prices and great food.
