Best Breakfast-heading down the 5 Fwy-LA to San Diego?
This weekend we're leaving early to beat the Sat. morning traffic to San Diego from the Valley. Can anybody make a great breakfast stop suggestion thats not to far off the 5 Fwy to enjoy?
Thanks in advance,
Stuart

Breakfast is what they do 24-7 @ HARBOR HOUSE, an institution amongst surfers and cruisers along PCH for decades. I've only been to the Dana Point location once -- on the way to San Diego -- but, it's a carbon copy of my local Sunset Beach branch.

i've been to this place several times for lunch but i believe they are open for breakfast - maybe too close to your destination - but milton's deli - via de la valle exit ( sd fair/racetrack exit ) might ber worthwhile - i believe this is the same milton's that makes breads that are sold at local supermarkets/costco.

Our favorite stop is the Americana Restaurant in Del Mar, 1454 Camino Del Mar. 858.794.6838. Great breakfasts - standard breakfast fare and more interesting breakfast combos, really, really good coffee drinks and wonderful baked goods. We leave LA in time for breakfast before 9am --- wanting to beat the crowd.
Take 1-5 South to Del Mar Heights Rd. Make a right onto Del Mar Heights Rd. Continue for 1.10 miles. Make a right onto Camino Del Mar. Continue for 0.8 miles. Restaurant is on the corner of Camino Del Mar and 15th Street.

Never been there myself, but I've always heard good things about the Original Pancake House, for which you would exit at Oso in Mission Viejo, turn right and go about 2 miles. It would then be on the left at the corner of Pacific Park (Oso) and Moulton.
This is almost exactly halfway between LA and San Diego.

Just a warning on the Original Pancake House: They cook their food in peanut oil-anything fired or cooked on a griddle, I guess. Those of us who have peanut allergies, unfortunately, can never dine there.
Shame really. I hate it whe a place insists on using peanut oil. Sure, it cooks at a higher temperature and adds some flavor (what, I'll never know), but there are other oils that do the same thing nd won't put a good percentage of the nation into anaphalactic shock!
Really, I'm just jealous that lots of other people get to go to the OPH and I don't. Sour grapes.
