Greetings,

I am looking for a venue for a formal dinner for 60-70 people in SF. Our last dinner was atop the JW Marriott (formerly Pan Pacific Hotel). We will be at the Cliff House in the fall and are considering Forbes Island for a future event. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We have a budget of $150 which translates roughly to $110/person prior to service charge and taxes.
We would consider a high end Asian restaurant if some private rooms are available similiar to what Harbor Village offered.
TIA.

Whatever you do ... NOT Forbes Island. Any other place in SF is better-priced with better food. If you must have a view it would almost be better to take a Hornblower cruise that has a buffet on the boat. The food is better than Forbes Island and so is the view.

Also, getting to Forbes Island is a real pain. You must take a little boat that goes about half a block's worth of water. If you have anyone in your group that is disabled, they won't be able to do it.

If you want that area and, it sounds like you are considering Asian, then Ana Mandara which is Vietanmese would be a good choice.

From your past venues, it sounds like the concern isn't a whole lot about great food, more passable food with a nice view. Even though it got a negative review in the Chronicle, Boudin Cafe at Fisherman's Wharf has a wonderful view and you can reserve the museum for an event. Better than Forbes Island food.

Heck, almost anything on the wharf is better than Forbes Island and that is not saying much. Alioto's or Scoma's aren't bad either.
