Boards link update

Due to an overwhelming amount of feedback regarding the flash map and how the Boards link works, we've redone it a bit.

The new functionality is as follows: When you click on the Boards link, a menu will drop down with all of the links to the boards. Click the Boards link again and the menu will scroll back up. Nothing will happen if you hover over the link anymore.

Click on it to your heart's content and you'll see how it works, we hope this is simpler and easier for everyone.

I think the new arrangement is much better.

I don't like rollovers, because they can be unpredictable. Get your mouse in the wrong spot, and suddenly everything shifts.

    Good job Chowhound team.

Dunno about the flash map, but I liked the Boards auto-scroll. The new arrangement costs me an extra click, every single time.

I agree, I also liked the auto-scroll on hover.

I know you can't please everyone, but count me among those that do like the "rollover" function rather than "click thru".

Ditto on the auto-scroll when the cursor hovers over the Board link. I much prefer that than having to click through. Definitely do NOT need the Flash map, but the pop-down Boards list would be great if we could have the option.

Agreed- if it was an either/or choice, I'd rather have it the way it is now (although I never clicked on Boards on purpose, when I accidentally did, I cursed that map every time). But if it's possible to have the rollover function back AND keep the clickthru the way it is now, I'd cast my vote in that direction.

Doing it that way makes it an inoperable link for people browsing the site without scripting turned on. No big deal, just thought I'd mention it.

If they have javascript turned off, navigating quickly between boards is the least of their worries.

But, you are correct, and there is a simple enough fix.

If you are using Firefox, an add-in is available which will allow you to "whitelist" sites you want to allow scripting on.

I just started using Firefox a few days ago and am still playing around with the controls. Thanks for the info. Sounds like something I will probably want to get.

Just noticed. Better. There really wasn't any need for the auto-scrolling that it used to have.
