birthday suggestions- navy yard bistro, others?

cubbie Jul 5, 2006 08:45 PM

It's my mom's birthday this friday.

We've done grotto and adored it, as well as il capriccio.

I'm looking for solid suggestions that have good meat/seafood, for 20-25 a plate for entrees. Good solid food, nothing too experimental. (ie last birthday she got tuna tartare, and split a beef tenderloin + seared sea scallops dish, followed by infused creme brulee.)

We did navy yard bistro for mother's day and loved it. I'm considering that, gargoyles, and evoo (also loved it), however, other suggestions? Reasonable wine lists are a plus. :-)Not looking for a "scene", rather good food and wine. (also, and I know my list is getting long- reasonably sized portions? my dad is a big eater)

the blue room in kendall square is pretty nice. maybe a bit more on the 'romantic' side, but the food is really good, and within that price range.

Have you tried Clio's? A little pricey, but I always enjoy it for special occasions.

Meritage is also good at the Boston Harbor Hotel. Great views (although check and make sure they are open on Sunday).

Oleana is a board favorite and I've had mixed results there, but they do have a lovely out door patio (if you can get a table).

Salts in Cambridge is also very nice.

Casual, but great food is the new Green Street Grill.
