Quick: I'm out of touch and need a good, "fun" dinner spot in Rock Center

JGS Jul 5, 2006 06:53 PM

No longer live in the city and don't know the worthy spots near Rock Center for three old girlfriends to do Thurs. dinner.

All cuisines considered. Outside dining would be a plus.

Is the "Rink" restaurant decent?

Thanks in advance.

It's not trendy, but if your idea of a "fun" restaurant centers mostly around great food (else, why would you be here?) I recommend Wu Liang Ye.

Fabulous, authentic Szechuan cooking, and it's right by Rock Center:

    Wu Liang Ye
    36 W 48th St (between 5th and 6th Aves, upstairs)
    New York, NY 10036
    (212) 398-2308

Great appetizers: dan dan noodles to make a brave man weep, though my personal favorite is the sliced beef tendon in chili vinaigrette.

For entrees, the shredded camphur tea-smoked duck with spring ginger is not to be missed.

I love China Grill at 60 W. 53rd in the CBS (Black Rock) Building. Food is consistantly good and the scene is happening! www.chinagrillmgt.com

Morell's has a terrace and is 'fun' if you require a good selection of wine by the glass and decent food. It is also often very loud, which I consider a significant deficit, but I gather that a great many people enjoy being around loud people and being loud themselves.

If the weather is nice you can sit outside at Morrell's, which isn't a bad option at all. The staff, however, is a bit snooty and the food/wine quite expensive.
