cheap, good Indian buffets on the westside

hi all,

I was wondering if any of you could recommend any cheap and good Indian buffets on the westside, especially for lunch?

thanks, all!

  1. New India Grill on Westwood just a couple blocks south of Wilshire is a decent and inexpensive spot. They do a buffet every weekday and I think they offer different dishes each day.

    1. in order of quality imho
      1) shershah in marina del rey
      2) jaipur on pico blvd near the westside pavillion
      3) anapurna on venice blvd

the cheapest is not a buffet, but has excellent quality:
india sweets and spices on venice blvd near bagley

I agree with this poster's assessment, particulary of India Sweets and Spices. Don't be put off by the negative ambience (rickety picnic tables, flimsy styrofoam containers, etc)--their food is excellent.

Anapurna is all vegetarian, and not as good as Chandni, which is also vegetarian, but more in Santa Monica, on Wilshire around 19th.

      2. Nawab (at 16th and Wilshire in SM) has a lunch buffet on Saturday and Sunday for $13.95 that includes salad, rice, chicken curry, those fried puffed things in sauce, eggplant bharta, lamb dish, tandoori chicken, raita and mint sauce, pickles, and fruit dessert. Selection on the meat dishes varies. Oh, and a glass of champagne. Also nan bread.

Nawab does a daily lunch buffet for something like $8.95, and it's quite good.

Agreed. Nawab is the best one. Its food is fantastic and setting is nice and clean, kind of upscale. Great stuff.

        2. My new favorite on the West side is @ Bharaat Bazaar in Mar Vista/Culver City. Like India Sweets and Spices, it is a Grocery Store with counter service indian food and tables on site but I would argue it is head and shoulders above India Sweets and spices with none of the Negative ambience found at ISS

          Try it you'll like it.

          Bharat Bazaar

          Take care

            will definitely try it soon.
it is much closer to me, would love to find a new, close place.
            thanks

Thank goodness the giant "CASKETS" sign which used to be next door to Bharat was taken down...real downer on the ambience. :)

            2. Gaylord's on La Cienega just north of Wilshire Blvd. has a good lunch buffet daily for about $13.00 per person. Their nan bread is heavenly.

                1. Mayura at the corner of Motor and Venice has a buffet lunch for $5.99 weekdays, $8.99 weekends.

                  1. Annapurna, which is on Venice, near Motor, has a very good, fresh buffet.

                    1. Shalimar at Jefferson and Overland has a pretty good, though limited buffet for about $7 at lunchtime.

                        must disagree.
their food is just this side of awful.
imho, it'd be better to spend a few dollars more and get good food at shershah in the marina or drive north

For a while I thought they'd closed because their web site was down; however, it's back up with:

                          $8.95 Buffet ~ Mon-Friday
$10.95 all you can eat & drink Champange Brunch/Buffet ~ Sat & Sunday

Hmm. Well, while I might not be that discriminating, Mrs. Chandavkl is a very picky eater and she really liked it. (There are only three Chinese restaurants in the entire San Gabriel valley that she finds acceptable.) Also, there were a number of Indo-American diners there which really surprised me.

                            1. re: Chandavkl

i WANT to really like it because it is across the street from my daughter's school and it would be so convenient to really like it.
                              believe me, i've tried......

                        2. The India Cafe on Santa Monica Blvd and Bundy (right next to California Vegan) has a small but tasty lunch buffet. They keep the buffet nice and hot and make sure to bring you toasty Naan with the meal. I'd recommend it.

                          1. Incredibly inexpensive is Chandni Vegetarian Restaurant, 1909 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica Tel: 310-828-7060. They have an all you can eat lunch buffet, but it's strictly vegetarian.
