Alameda's Ark Chinese - Chef Jimmy Zhang moving on

Martin Strell Jul 3, 2006 01:59 AM

I posted ealier today about the change in ownership at Dongbei House in Alameda. Last weekend, we also learned that Chef Jimmy Zhang of Ark restaurant (Fangzhou) in Alameda is also moving on. Jimmy Zhang and the chef at Dongbei house are friends and studied cooking together in China, coincidentally. Any, after a dissapointing meal at Ark last weekend with myself, Jing, Windy and Windy's friend, we chatted with the chef. He said that some time in July he will be moving to Utah to open a large Chinese-American style restaurant. He does not plan to serve any of the authentic local dishes that can be found on the menu at Ark. He wasn't sure whether Ark will stay open after he leaves, but it seems certain the food will not be the same.

Pretty disappointing that we can't keep good Northern Chinese chefs.
