Forthcoming Restaurants in Eagle Rock

Driving down Colorado Blvd today, I noticed that the Dante's BBQ sign has been replaced by a sign that says "Taco Spot". Kind of ridiculous with all the taco trucks in the neighborhood, but maybe this kind of place will appeal to those who are afraid to go to taco trucks. Does anyone know the details?

Also, for the past several months an empty storefront on Colorado had a banner saying "Coming Soon: Pho Saigon". That has now been replaced by a banner that says "Coming Soon: Lemongrass". Does anyone know if this will be a sister restaurant to Gingergrass? Or is the cynic in me correct that this will just be the very same Pho Saigon with an upscale name-change in order to charge higher prices?

Just got the latest e-newsletter from the Eagle Rock neighbors' group, which announced that a new restaurant called Larkin's is being built on east Colorado, next to Cindy's coffee shop. Apparently it'll be a soul-food-oriented sort of place. It'd be nice to have the Colorado "restaurant row" extend all the way up past Trader Joe's; we like Cindy's a lot but it's not really any sort of destination, unless you just want a very good cheap breakfast or lunch. I hope the new place will be a worthy addition.

Tommy's in Eagle Rock is almost as good as the original. My wife and I had Thanksgiving Dinner there a few years ago.

Webb mentioned Lemongrass -- one possibility is that the New York Thai mini-franchise Lemongrass Grill is expanding out here.

No, the sign definitely says it will be Vietnamese.

Oh no way. I was in ER earlier today and passed by the site of The Oinkster. The interior looks like the place got hit by a tornado. So appratenly they're only starting to gut the inside. No way they'll open by August.

Much has happened in the past 23 days since NG posted and it now appears that mid-August is about the date for the pastrami and fries invasion, courtesy of Andre Guerrero of the Oinkster. Has his menu already on line - check it out.

Michelangelo's has been having major problems with permits and city issues, as has the Oinkster at the former Jim's Burgers site.
However, the Oinkster is now back on track for an end of the month, or early August opening. Beware: contagious french fries and wonderful pastrami will be invading your neighborhood very soon!

You might check with Michael at the Coffee Table just east of Dante's, as he is the former owner of Dante's and will probably be able to fill you in.

I've been wondering about both spots ... and wondering about the Michelangelo's location that LAT has said is supposed to open in the neighborhood ... anyone know anything?
