Sour cherries at Greenmarket

For those of you who have been waiting for the sour cherries to arrive, they're at the Union Square Greenmarket right now.

Unfortunately, some farmers were hit really hard by the flooding over the past couple of days. The Berried Treasure strawberry folks are back; their berries are a little battered, but still better than anyone else's.

  1. That's great news!
(Although, not a bumper crop this year.)

    1. Do you happen to know if there are still there? I miss visne suyu (sour cherry juice) from my time in Istanbul and would love to make some fresh.

I've heard you can buy visne suyu at Turkish groceries in Sunnyside. Anyone know where in particular?

      1. I tasted from all the purveyors on Saturday and wasn't satisfied with any of them.

        1. made a sour cherry pie for july 4th with what i thought were the last of the greenmarket sour cherries. it was pretty tasty if i do say so myself. don't know what's left there but they may be worth a pie in any case.

          1. Regarding sour cherry juice in Sunnyside, so many places have it, even the supermarkets sometimes. You may want to try Massis Foods at 42-20 43rd Avenue, or El-Shatar half a block east at 43-02 43rd.
