Does anybody know if or when the Larchmont or Melrose/La Brea locations are going to open. I need my fix closer to home!

  1. Pinkberry is under construction in the Trader Joe's center adjacent to Dupar's, so your friends on this side of the hill can also indulge. Great place to go for a post-Sunday reward after braving the heat of the Sunday Farmer's Market across the street.

Carter, I have to agree. I finally tried it yesterday when I was running between appointments and, lo and behold, spotted no line at the Weho location. Regarding some of the comments here, I don't know that I'd wait in line for any yogurt but I did find this refreshing and satisfying with a generous addition of both blueberries and banana. Non fat to boot.

    2. The location next to M Cafe near LaBrea/Melrose has been open for about 3 days now.

I tried it for the first time last night, because I had to see what all the hype is about, and I have to say, BLECH! Maybe I was expecting something totally different, but I really don't like the fact that it really tastes like yogurt.

What's the big deal? Please enlighten me. I'd rather eat Pazzo Gelato anyday. Yes, I am aware that it's not "fat-free" but that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Next, I'm going to try Beard Papa's at Highland/Hollywood. Any opinions?

lol i think you might be one of the few people left in town who would go out to have frozen yogurt and be disappointed that it "really tastes like yogurt." let the deprogramming begin!

        1. re: blk

First time I had Pinkberry, I thought the same. But the 2nd and 3rd time they got more and more delicious. But then I also noticed the serving size got smaller and smaller. Anyways, it seems to get better after the first time. Weird, eh?

          1. re: blk

So if that one's open now, is the parking just absolutely hell? It was bad enough with just M Cafe...

            1. re: blk

Beard Papa is great. I've gone to the one in Shanghai and the one here in Gardena, but for whatever reason I thought the filling in the one in Shanghai was much better--might've just been that I was on vacation that made it taste better though, who knows. In any case, I wouldn't write off the one in Gardena; I go there often and it's always a tasty treat.

In any case, the Pastissere Chantilly in Lomita has better cream puffs than the Bear Papa chains, but it also costs three times as much.

            2. I wasn't impressed either. I had heard people RAVING about this place, so I finally tried it last weekend. It definitely tastes like frozen plain yogurt. I don't get they hype. Couldn't I replicate this EXACTLY just by freezing some plain yogurt and toping it with fresh fruit or Cap'n Crunch?

It was refreshing, but not worth the hype or the wait. Also a little pricey in my opinion.

It wasn't bad, I just don't get it.

I once froze yogurt in an attempt to make frozen yogurt and all I got was a yogurt ice cube.

It required a chisel, not a spoon.

                1. re: PaulF

whew, glad i'm not the only person to try. hahah!

                  1. re: wilafur

Put it in the freezer for just a little while and it's a good healthy snack. Keep it in too long, and yes, it just well, freezes.

              2. i waited 30 minutes at the west hollywood location with great anticipation...hmmmmm, nothing special. just the hype. dont worry guys, they will be nothing soon. they expanded waaaaay to fast. what was good about the west hollywood location is it was hyped and the only place to go. you see a line, diverse crowds, etc.. now with 20 stores opening..the hype is gone. the long lines are gone. it will end up being another Penguins!

                1. Yeah, it is way overpriced. They have such a scam going. I think it is all to pay for the architectural finishes in the stores and their Kartell chairs...

Anyway, I think I saw on another thread that they use powder to concoct this stuff and it does taste suspiciously like Calpico or any of those other yogurt-flavored asian beverages, which are chock full of sugar and perhaps not so healthy after all.

Remember the Seinfeld episode about the frozen yogurt that everyone was eating, gaining 10 lbs.?

                  1. re: blk

to be honest, i don't really care what they put in it or how healthy it is. what i like about it is that it has the proper tang and, more importantly, that it's not too sweet. most desserts out there - from ice creams to american-style frozen yogurt to cakes and pies etc. - are far too sweet for my taste buds, so pinkberry is the alternative i'll gladly consume.

                    1. re: blk

that was my first thought when i started reading about the pinkberry craze! i'm a nutritionist, and if there's one thing i've learned in my practice, if the claims about a product sound too good to be true, they probably are. pinkberry may not contain any fat, but i guarantee it's still loaded with calories, and even though it's not super-sweet, it contains sugar. eat at your own risk, and don't kid yourselves. it's still just frozen yogurt!

                    2. I have to agree. We tried it last week and I was pleasantly surprised. It isn't very sweet and it tastes like yogurt. The low fat content is just a bonus. In my opinion the serving sizes are crazy and should be much smaller. Whatever happened to a cone? Why is that servings sizes in America have to resemble vats?

Normally I would agree with you on the "vat" size issue. I started out at PB with the small, now I can't leave with anything less than a med and more often than not wish I had the large. The plain really grew on me.

                        1. re: Tinitime

haha yea it's large for me all the time these days. with triple blueberries lol.

                      2. Yes Pinkberry has grown on me. I hear that Koreatown just opened and I heard that there is one in North Hollywood too. Someone I know in New York said that one just opened too. They really need a webpage with their locations.

The "North Hollywood" one is probably the one in Studio City next to Trader Joe's. It's not open yet.

                          1. re: WandererLA

they have a web site now...pinkberry.com. limited info, but the locations are listed.

                          2. just a fyi...i was at the melrose/la brea location about an hour ago and it was empty. no one inside and no line! in and out in one minute! i hope they aren't about to overextend themselves.

You're lucky....I've been twice this week and the pace was brisk. I was still in and out in about 3-5 minutes, but there was definitely a line...I went in at 2pm both days. The only thing I don't like about that location is that it's really darn hot inside...they have no ventilation...but that is quickly remedied by a medium with strawberries, chocolate chips and graham crackers.

                            2. curiousity brought me pinkberry's on melrose/labrea today. i wasn't sure what to expect. i really liked it. there was a crowd, but i was in and out of there quickly. it does indeed taste like refreshing frozen non sugary yogurt. maybe not for everyone, but i'll be back.

                              1. Popped my Pinkberry cherry today! Went to the Koreatown location and it was such a breeze. Worth the 22 mile round trip, plenty of garage parking (for free), no more than a minute queue, friendly service, room to relax and kick back, great ambience and yes the yogurt was great. I got a medium ,plain cup with strawberry, mango and granola toppings. The toppings were stacked so high the yogurt was hardly visible. So light and refreshing, that was a great breakfast/lunch for under $5.00.

                                  where in k-town is this?

                                2. Supposedly 6th st and Berendo but i drove by a few times and didn't see it. Is it inside another establishment maybe?

                                  1. It's on the southwest corner of 6th and Berendo. On the street level floor of the new condo/apt building.

                                    1. I went to the Melrose Pinkberry on Friday after hearing that it was open. The location wasn't that great. The A/C was not working so the store was very hot and it is laid out pretty weird. The line was about 20mins. I was a bit surprised on how ugly this Pinkberry was and there was little or no parking. I ended up parking 5 blocks down on Melrose and walked.

I think I still prefer the West Hollywood location.

                                      1. Mrs. O reports that there's one getting ready to open in Pasadena. Can't remember where exactly, though we can safely assume it will be somewhere in the Old Town area...

                                        1. Haven't tried Pinkberry yet, but I am addicted to the vanilla custard (plain or with blueberries) at Big Chill on Westwood & Olympic - can't imagine liking a frozen yogurt more than that (yes, it is non-fat).

i'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but the "vanilla custard" yogurt at bigg chill is NOT fat-free. it's "low-fat," and contains about 23 calories per ounce (i think you get about 6 ounces in a mini cup).

                                          2. Pinkberry in Westwood opened today. I just came from there. It's located on Lindbrook, west of Westwood Blvd. One of the workers said they opened at 5pm today. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.

                                            1. i made my second visit to pinkberry last night on melrose/la brea. the parking is a nightmare, i had to park across the street and down a block(it was before the 8:00 cutoff of non-restricted parking)and run across melrose traffic to get there. i ordered a medium this time and when i got home and ate it, i noticed they swirled the yogurt around the edges of the cup and the entire middle was void of any frozen yogurt. are other mediums this way? i feel like i had more actual frozen yogurt when i got a small- i don't recall that happening. pretty annoyed about it actually... but alas, it was so good, i'll unfortunately have to return, but stick to getting a small.

I am so glad you said that cuz when I wen to the Melrose one last week my friends and I made a comment about it... Jeez... first the serving cups get smaller and smaller and now they swirl... sheesh!

                                                But I'm addicted. AIEEE!

                                                1. re: jazmin

My visit to the Westwood location last night was my first Pinkberry experience. I, too, ordered a medium and noticed that the yogurt was swirled around the edge of the cup and empty in the middle. I was a little disappointed to see this but I assumed it was normal.

By the way...found parking pretty easy at 9pm on Gayley.

                                                2. i was at pinkberry melrose/la brea last night around 730 and the line was very small...much less crowded obviously than the original location, i found it pleasant to finally not have to WAIT AN HOUR and STAND IN A HUGE LINE for my pinkberry experience, they also have a new thing bear naked (pinkberry copy) in the century city mall that is pretty good as well...i think gourmet yogurt that taste like yogurt is going to be EVERYWHERE sooner than we think! and also - did anyone see the pinkberry POSTERS around town? they are next to ads for music releases and movies, cant miss them!

                                                  1. Anyone else worried that Pinkberry is expanding too fast? Samtron mentioned it above and I totally agree. I'm glad I no longer have to wait an hour, but I hear that besides these four (WeHo, Melrose/LB, K-Town, and Westwood) they plan on opening something like 20 locations in the next year or so. Kind of a bad business model, don't you think?

Cups seems smaller, fruit toppings were stingy compared to my weho experiences. Still tasted good. Kind of a rip for $5 if they're not gonna load it up.

                                                              1. Just went to the Melrose location (7pm). Only 1 person ahead of me in line. They definitely were stingy with my Cap'n crunch. 1. i too went to la brea and melrose, there was a small line but it moved fast.
in the first store i remember they had like a sign explaining that the yogurt sizes are by ounce, so it would not matter if it was hollow. so i guess that is a common complaint.

                                                                    1. They've "unveiled" the Studio City branch, but it's still got paper over the windows and a job-fair notice taped up. You want to know from parking nightmares, my God, just wait till that tiny little parking lot with a Trader Joe's, a McDonalds, a Blockbuster Video, Dupar's and now Pinkberry starts to fill up.

                                                                      1. The best thing about Pinkberry's is the floor. Standing on tiny pebbles never felt so good. I wonder if the glue and glaze on the floor is toxic. The design of both locations ressembles a large bathroom. My friend pointed out it's "manufactured desire" and the clausterphobic ambience reeks of commerce. A place for the owners to make money and customer to feel like a chump for buying the hype disguised in well appointed feng shui.

                                                                        1. I decided against starting yet another Pinkberry post, so I hope this doesn't get buried in here, but has anyone seen any nutrional information listed anywhere for Pinkberry (I haven't been to the place yet, so I don't know if they post it there)? I'm more interested in sugar content than fat, but any info is appreciated.

                                                                          1. The West Hollywood location has the nutritional info posted. It's 25 calories an ounce and fat free. I believe there are 5 grams of sugar per ounce.

So a medium (8 oz) would be 200 calories w/ 40 grams of sugar - before fruit and the other toppings. Really not too shabby for such a hefty dessert.

that's assuming that what they serve you is true to size as listed. people's perceptions of portion sizes are way off. there are 8 ounces in one cup, and the "small" i ordered at pinkberry contained at least that much.

                                                                              1. re: 1_healthnut

Obviously, some variance might occur. However, the last few times I've been there, the server actually weighed my yogurt. They might be more careless when it's really busy.

All that said, I don't reaaaally see the big deal with Pinkberry. It's pretty good, and certainly healthier than binging on a pint of Haagen Daz, but I wouldn't go there if I didn't live a couple blocks away.

                                                                                1. re: mehfactor

The small is 5 ounces. On my first--and so far only--visit to Pinkberry, I noted that the large is the equivalent size to a small plus a medium, as well as the same price as buying a small and a medium (no bargains for bulk here).

                                                                            2. So whats the latest on the Studio City location?

                                                                                2. Westwood Location will not "mix/swirl" Original with Green Tea. Booooooo!

Since Pinkberry is a franchise operation, with outlets in Manhattan and Los Angeles, we'd like to consolidate discussion on the Chains board. This allows hounds to pool information and opinions in one place. We've moved recent threads there, so please head to that board to add your input on the food at Pinkberry. It is OK to discuss information on specific locations locally, but please move all new discussion on the food to the Chains board. Thanks

Farm Boy in Sherman Oaks (Hazeltine and Riverside Dr.) just got a frozen yogurt machine which is the same machine that Pinkberry and Limelite use (Taylor) - The frozen yogurt is the exact same as Pinkberry but much cheaper! only $0.39 per ounce and they do not charge per topping. They have plain and blueberry..... yum!

                                                                                              1. I'd like to add that the P'berry yogurt is good but overrated...but I tried the fresh fruit shaved ice today...wow!
