Boston Chowhound visiting Miami

Lgalen Jun 30, 2006 02:00 AM

I'm leaving the cloudy Boston ARra in search of two weeks of SUN and good food. It's been a few years since I've been down to MB in the summer, but I'm excited to be going back. We'll be staying near the Fountainbleu (mom's condo) and looking forward to exploring what's new on the restaurant scene, as well as some of our old favorites, if they're still there and still good.
We like ethnic, homey places, but not necessarily Indian or Asian, as we have plenty of great choices for that up here. We love some of the South American (Cuban, Peruvian, Venezualan) places, Southern cooking, seafood, and off-beat (Turkish, Persian, etc.). We are not into fancy, "in" places, but do like Lincoln Rd.
Old favorites include Garcia's, Panna, Ice Box, Latin-American cafeteria, and others. So Miami Chowhounds, what have you got for us?
Also:
My teenagers will be with us for part of the time. One thing they loved last time we were there was "Happy Hour" in South Beach. Of course, they just got the "Virgin" dacquaries and pina coladas, but they liked being part of that "scene". Do they still have these super-cheap all afternoon Happy Hours?

Still new to the area, but already fell in love with the River Oyster Bar downtown.
