JG Melon Burger - eh.

Loved the old-timey ambience of this place. Ordered a medium-rare bacon cheeseburger. The bun was nicely griddled - crispy and brown and not greasy. The burger was a perfect medium rare. However, the bacon was definitely cooked off hours earlier and I thought that the beef itself (kind of the centerpiece of the experience) was a bit flavorless. Shack burgers are well-seasoned and loosely packed and I guess they've come to be my standard.
This burger was just alright and, ultimately, I agree with those hounds that cautioned in advance of my visit that the Melon burger was ok but not burger pantheon-worthy. Those little cottage fries would be a reason for me to return, though...

I live on the UES and have frequented JG, and it's a good after work place to grab a beer and a decent burger no doubt...and those fries are addictive. Agreed though, that if you're going to be critical, there are many other places around the city that are much better...
