We had a delightful lunch in Paulliac at Restaurant Cordeillan-Bages which is a two star and we'd be hard pressed to figure out why not a three star. We were a group of 8 friends, one of whom has celiac, and the restaurant not only served fabulous food in a delightful setting but was wonderfully accommodating for our friend who vowed it among the best meals she ever had. Lunch is lovely and leisurely if you are planning to be in the area for wine-tasting or any other reason and is immensely good value at about 60 euros for the set course menu.

on a less intimidating but also rewarding level, in Poitiers we enjoyed dinner at Alain Boutain which is on Rue Carnot and very central. A thoughtful menu from a very promising chef at about 35 euros for dinner including wine.
