Places with lots of character?

Looking for some neat cheap places with lots of character and good food. example would be the Tulip, Carmens, Country Style etc...

I personally find Zelda's a tad contrived, but maybe that's just me.

I would add to your list:

Tokyo Grill (Yonge just north of Wellesley); cute Japanese comfort food place

Kabab House (Yonge, north of Wellesley); Persian kebabs housed in what used to be a tropical-themed bar of some sort

Cafe La Gaffe (Baldwin Village); hobo-chic, with great brunches (dinners are okay, but their brunches and lunches are better)

Zelda's.

The food isn't amazing, but the drinks are. It's probably the most fun evening in the city. Especially during the Thursday drag show.
