Suggestion Regarding New Searching

David Kahn Jun 28, 2006 08:24 PM

Just a small suggestion regarding the new advanced search feature. It would be really helpful if there were a page somewhere that explained the search language and logic rules for this function. (E.g., if I put something in quotation marks, does the search look for the quoted phrase/words exactly?; what sort of boolean connectors can I use?; can wildcard characters be used, and if so, what are they?, etc.) It would be great not to have to guess or use trial and error with this sort of thing.

Also, fwiw, now that I'm getting used to it, I really like the new board. Thanks for all the work and for keeping Chowhound alive guys!

At the moment, I'm pretty sure the search is buggy. The underlying engine should recognize double quotes as delimiting a phrasse, and that's not working.

I agree with David on this.

An advanced search "instructions" page would be great!

Also that the new site is really coming along. Thanks indeed for keeping Chowhound alive! :-)
