The poster formerly known as – the short version

Melanie started a great post about new handles/old handles.

However, it would be nice to have a quick view of the new handles. So I’m hoping that Chowhounds will post here if they changed their handle but just post

new name < old name.

If you want to expand or comment like “great to see you back" I’m hoping you will do that in the longer post here.

And, if you are a poster who changed your title on the old software, it might be cool to post here if you want.

Or if you see someone on a home board announce a name change report it here or ask them to report it here.

I’ll get this started with a separate post with my name changes in the past (explanation in the Old Handle/New Handle topic). I’ll also post the names I’ve culled to date.

Names I did not put in the list that are in Melanie’s post. If and when you folks decide to add your names to this list, I’ll delete these notes.

E Eto - I wasn’t sure if you formerly wanted to make that link.
JK Grence the Cosmic Jester – email me if you want to know. Has to do with search

Email (address on My Chow) with comments and requests so that this topic remains a quick cheat sheet reference of handle changes

*** Edited: Just re-read if you read the longer version.

No one needs to follow the request, but again, to make this useful

I'm really doing it because I never announced my name change a couple years ago so here it is for the record.

                                                                    Like I said, I'm slow.

                                                                    1. re: Ed Dibble

                                                                    2. With apologies to Phoo D, When "Twofer" became only one, I started posting as phood (one word, and not nearly as clever)
Oddly, a search of our old posts as twofer finds only a couple of them (regarding harvey guss's meats, Alejo's trattoria, & ladies who lunch) and misses the comparative study of LA barbeques, among others.

                                                                      2. SoupNoodles < Bryan Loofbourrow

I mean...you've built up credibility and friendships with your old handles.....just because the software is new, why are so many hounds motivated to rename themeselves?

I've been leading online forums for so long that few things surprise me anymore. But this really surprised me! :)

Well, I never changed mine, but I kinda wanted to. I originally started posting under just "Katie" because I didn't really understand how the system worked and there were Bob's and other names like it on the Midwest board, so I just thought that's how it worked. Then, along came another Katie, so I became Katie Nell, not terribly original, but I just couldn't come up with something meaningful in a pinch. (It's kind of like a tattoo... if I'm going to get a tattoo, I would want it to be something that's meaningful to me, but I just can't think of anything, as opposed to getting a rose or something, ya know?!) Maybe I think too hard?!

                                                                              1. re: Jim Leff

                                                                                Hi Jim,

I think some people changed their handles because of difficulties with the (beta only) new chowhound site - right when the system went online. I seem to remember some SCARF discussions about trying to register correctly.

I changed mine from Elissa (only) to be more distinctive; there was another poster with my oh-so-creative nom de plume.

                                                                              2. If Chowhound management doesn't mind people changing their usernames, then why not automate the whole process and have a name change option as part of user profile maintenance. Then it wouldn't be necessary to create an entire new user account, and a thread such as this current one wouldn't be necessary in the future. The software could track all name changes and display whatever notice is necessary.

This thread may have served a purpose for those who assumed new handles at the time of the changeover from old Chowhound to the CNET version, but it shouldn't be necessary in the future.
