Right now, the yellow background is reliable on the index but not on many of the threads, themselves.
Assuming that this is an anamoly, thanks so much Chowhound Engineers/Team/Marching Band. This is a huge improvement and the yellow background works well with the palette. Best of all, I'm cruising through long threads much faster.
It's hard to listen and work so hard at the same time, and I appreciate your efforts.

re: Chris VR
Well then I won't attribute it to my eyesight, but to the evil Microsoft Empire. I have tried changing every conceivable setting in IE to no avail, except to substitue my own style sheet, which is a bit out of my league.
Interesting observation, when I first post anything, the site immediately displays the background of the posting in a nice, bright yellow, that then quickly fades. I sure wish the unread postings were even half as bright as that first splash of yellow.

re: ChinoWayne
Is it possibly that you're using a laptop? Possibly even an IBM laptop?
I've noticed that the contrast on a lot of laptops is FAR less strong than desktop monitors (regardless of whether the desktop monitor is CRT or flat-panel. It must have something to do with the video card in the laptops.)

Bingo, Peter!
It's a laptop, not IBM, but with an LCD screen, the only way I can get it to display contrasty enough is to slant the screen so far "back", that I am almost reading the data on it from a total different plane, and then it is overall so dark as to be almost unreadable.
Ahhhhh, technology...

Ditto. I want to say also that I'm really impressed by the responsiveness of the Chowhound Team -- obviously all our complaints and suggestions are being read and acted upon whenever possible. It is a little disconcerting when I spot a new-to-me feature ... I think "was that always there, or did they just add it?" Like the link under the number of replies that takes you to the new replies -- was that always there? It would be nice if the tech team could tack a list of the new features as they're added to the top of this board.

re: Melanie Wong
As long as the stuff gets changed I'm happy. One of the zillion posters usually catches it and posts.
That being said, I'd like to suggest again that somewhere along the line there is another link in the Site Site Specific section that only Chowhound could post to.
That would contain all the Quick Tips and Software Change announcements that would be quick to find. The good info posted by the chowhound team gets lost in all the posters questions and comments.
