LOVE the yellow background for new posts in a thread!

carswell Jun 27, 2006 08:09 PM

You've just fixed one of my biggest problems with the new interface. Kudos! And thanks!

    I agree it's nice.

Chowhound Team, where are site improvements such as this announced? (or have they not been announced?).

At this point I'm afraid to add my site improvement suggestions because I haven't read thru the 100+ posts and they might be on your todo list already.

    1. Seth Chadwick Jun 27, 2006 08:27 PM

I agree. The shading on the new posts as well as the "# of replies" box on the threads is very helpful.

Thanks for listening to the community.

OMG !!! ... thank you for posting this to bring it to everyone's atttention.

I really would not have noticed quickly since IIRC there was random shading before.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Chowhound Tech Team ... yes, yes, oh baby, yeeees.

Ditto. I want to say also that I'm really impressed by the responsiveness of the Chowhound Team -- obviously all our complaints and suggestions are being read and acted upon whenever possible. It is a little disconcerting when I spot a new-to-me feature ... I think "was that always there, or did they just add it?" Like the link under the number of replies that takes you to the new replies -- was that always there? It would be nice if the tech team could tack a list of the new features as they're added to the top of this board.

User Help might be a good place to announce these features, which is where the Chowhound Team has been posting tips for navigating the boards.

As long as the stuff gets changed I'm happy. One of the zillion posters usually catches it and posts.

That being said, I'd like to suggest again that somewhere along the line there is another link in the Site Site Specific section that only Chowhound could post to.

That would contain all the Quick Tips and Software Change announcements that would be quick to find. The good info posted by the chowhound team gets lost in all the posters questions and comments.

Thanks! Glad you all like it.

Yes! I noticed this immediately when I logged in today! Now my brain and eyes don't hurt as much...you guys are making the site more and more addictive.

That resolves my main complaint. Thanks for the fast work.

Great job, CH Engineering! This really expedites reading the boards/topics.

Except, for this old geezer's eyes, the color differnce is so subtle as to be almost indiscernable, sure would be nice if it was a tad more contrasty with the background of the previously read posts.

I really do eat a lot of carrots, but they don't seem to be helping.

Must be a browser-specific thing, the contrast is very clear for me.

Well then I won't attribute it to my eyesight, but to the evil Microsoft Empire. I have tried changing every conceivable setting in IE to no avail, except to substitue my own style sheet, which is a bit out of my league.

Interesting observation, when I first post anything, the site immediately displays the background of the posting in a nice, bright yellow, that then quickly fades. I sure wish the unread postings were even half as bright as that first splash of yellow.

Is it possibly that you're using a laptop? Possibly even an IBM laptop?

I've noticed that the contrast on a lot of laptops is FAR less strong than desktop monitors (regardless of whether the desktop monitor is CRT or flat-panel. It must have something to do with the video card in the laptops.)

                          Bingo, Peter!

It's a laptop, not IBM, but with an LCD screen, the only way I can get it to display contrasty enough is to slant the screen so far "back", that I am almost reading the data on it from a total different plane, and then it is overall so dark as to be almost unreadable.

                          Ahhhhh, technology...

Right now, the yellow background is reliable on the index but not on many of the threads, themselves.

Assuming that this is an anamoly, thanks so much Chowhound Engineers/Team/Marching Band. This is a huge improvement and the yellow background works well with the palette. Best of all, I'm cruising through long threads much faster.

It's hard to listen and work so hard at the same time, and I appreciate your efforts.
