Hype v. Reality

There was a discussion of "must eats" on the LA board.
Someone mentioned a Chinese eatery and someone panned it.
Then it was pointed out that it had such great write ups, great clientele, and was just tops with the Japanese (the ultimate measure of good Chinese).

Personally, after gaining so much praise, I think many places often start to bask in their glory and give less attention to the food. Still, many of the followers persist in their praise.

Anyone else sense this?

  1. Hmmm, perhaps a problem with the chef spending too much time in the dining room schmoozing than in the kitchen making sure the food is coming out well? Interesting....
