Where to buy whole roast pig?

Ideas?

I would check with Casa de Carnes Solucao on Bow Street in Somerville. They can certainly provide roasting/suckling pigs and during the holidays they offer one roasted, but not certain if that would be possible now. If you do buy it there, I would suggest asking them not to use sazon. I would expect an unroasted suckling pig (19-25 lbs) to be more like $75 from them -- $50 depending on the size of the pig is an excellent price. You can also buy one side during the holidays, but right now it would be a special order. I have never bought one roasted, but have roasted suckling pigs several times from several Brazilian butchers.

In addition to Midwest, you could also ask the people at Cafe da Fazenda on Main in Everett if you wanted a Brazilian style pig (would be oven roasted, not spit). Their food is good and they seem amenable to catering various dishes to order.

Two other possible options are Izzy's in Cambridge (puerto rican) or El Oriental catering (someone else had some trouble reaching them recently) as its not uncommon in the carribbean basted with a sevillian orange sauce.

There were two getting wrapped for transport when my wife and I were at Hong Kong Eatery recently, and not only did they look fantastic, but I was pretty sure the tag said they only cost $50 each. Hard to believe, though, so that might be wrong.

Had a great experience a couple of years ago getting two whole, spit-roasted pigs from Midwest Grill in Inman Square, Cambridge -- incredibly nice people and fair prices, too.

I think Rainbow Cafe in Chinatown and Kam Man in Quincy are great for whole roast pig but call ahead.

Try some the HK-style BBQ places e.g. China Pearl Best Cafe or HK Eatery in Chinatown.
