French Fried Shrimp
There was a place in South Haven, Mi called Jensens. They had the best fried shrimp that I enjoyed thru my early years.
The place is still there, but not the same as it once was. In Chicago, I did find that Hagens on Montrose near Central is pretty close to those childhood taste sensations.
Anywhere in the Chicago area that is making good french fried shrimp?

Well after reading these recomendations I have decided to let my best kept secret out .
The place for shrimp is Haire,s Gulf Shrimp. Shrimp is the only thing they do and they do it right. The owner Mr Haire uses his mothers Louisiana family receipe and is always on the premises. It,s carry out only but you can call ahead if you wish. Shrimp lovers will find this place irresistable, and the prices are right.

You can try Lawrence Fisheries on Canal and Cermak or Goose Island Shrimp House on Division. Both are Chicago Institutions, greasy and good. Both I believe have been discussed before on this forum...
I just found out that Lawrence Fisheries serves ceviche (not on the menu, you have to ask for it). Absolutely fresh and delicious!

You can get a great basket of fried shrimp at LuxBar on Belmont (near Rush) for about $8 in the bar food section of their menu.
There are usually about 8 nicely sized shrimp with fries served in a basket with a white cloth napkin. And would you believe... after you finish the fries you won't find any trace of grease on the napkin.
