Seeking shellfish in Gaspe

hungrykate Jun 24, 2006 05:57 PM

Hi Chowhounds,

I'm heading to the Gaspe in a few days for vacation. Does anyone have any tips on great places to get fresh shellfish - shrimp, crab, but, most importantly, lobster.

Last year, I had fantastic fresh lobster at a seaside shack in Maine and need to get my hands on more this summer.

Thanks all.

I havent been to Gaspé in a while and don't remember any names...but I'm pretty confident that you can find good shellfish in almost every restaurant there...

Perce seems to still have a lobster fishery - there are several well regarded restaurants there - as well as the great rock and bonaventure island. Auberge Fort Prevel and particularly the Gite Mt. Albert are fine destinations for eating and staying - I particularly recommend the a-frames rentable at the gite and the wonderful mountain trails, as well as their cuisine, both breakfast and dinner. Worth shelling out for an inclusive deal for at least one day. Either may have seafood on its menu. In my experience though, cod-tongues are a more frequently encountered gaspe specialty than lobster.
