"New Flags"

Does anyone else feel that the "NEW" flag (in board view and in thread view) is just a bit too unobtrusive to easily notice when scrolling? I wish it could be colored or something to stand out just a bit more conspicuously

This would also stave off the mods and I needing to explain to everyone to look for those flags.... :)

  1. It works for me in board view. But in thread view, it should be out on the left margin where a quick scan can pick it up easily. After the posters name is not a good position, since it shifts position in each reply.

Yeah, very very good, Melanie. I totally agree.

I think Melanie has the right idea! Her solution would work for me.

      2. Way too unobtrusive, IMO.

On lengthy threads, I'm having a heck of a time finding one or two new replies in the haystack.

Me too. And that's something I want to do a LOT....the message index told me something's new, so.....well....where is it?

        2. What I really want when I scan a thread is a different colored background for new posts.

Yeah. In fact, we talked about that, I wonder what happened...may still be on the to-do list.

            1. Jim, I don't want to sound like a broken record (I brought this up earlier), but if the software is capable of flagging what is a new post or reply to you, then it is capable of not showing you replies that were already up when you were last on the board. (Most boards that include this option show you the original post and all replies since the last time you went to that board, and this seems perfect to me).

Of course, some would want the ability to see the whole thread even if they've had the opportunity to read it, and could so toggle, just as you can sort threads now by time of original post or by last reply.

There's no other feature for hard-core users of boards to speed up the process, and it solves most of the negatives of threading.

Yes, I really need something like that. I'm getting tired of all this scrolling. If I feel like that now on a slow news day when there are hardly any posts, it's only going to get worse on a more active day.
