Scoozzi is swell. It was one of the first "trendy" restaurants in New Haven, and still makes the most of that quirky, subterranean location. The menu is more substantial and certainly more manageable these days -- for a bunch of years, it was so eccentric that ordering anything resembling dinner was a challenge -- and yet, the food is still interesting, and so is the ambience. I think Scoozzi has fallen off the radar somewhat -- which isn't surprising, given the non-stop explosion of new restaurants in town -- but it's more than holding its own, and worth a visit, especially for those seeking respite from trendy downtown joints. Ironic, no?
