I think you need a private dining room: you'll want to be loud, share inappropriate toasts, and so forth. The luxury steakhouses fit the bill: beef and testosterone and lots of cocktails. I find most of the chains rather interchangeable in terms of the food. My favorites are the non-chain entries, like the Oak Room.
For other cuisines, upmarket and expensive: Davio's, Avila, Mistral, Locke-Ober, Radius, Bricco. More casual and cheaper: East Coast Grill, Tremont 647, Stella, Summer Shack, Maggiano's, Silvertone, The Stockyard, Vinny's Superette.
