Burning Hell's Kitchen

Caught about ten minutes (that's all I could stand) of "Hell's Kitchen" the other night. Am I the only one who thinks this show is dull, unoriginal, and undermines being a cook/chef? Why would underqualified people (sorry but a deli manager and cafeteria cook?) go on stage just to be publically lambasted by Gordon Ramsay? Perhaps I don't get the gist of the show. Anyway, "whatever, cook on tv."

  1. I can't watch it, it really bothers me. I can't even stand the ads.

    1. It's silly reality TV, which is not for everyone. And regardless of your tastes, it's pretty harmless and isn't going to undermine anything.

      1. I'm not a big fan of Hell's Kitchen but I do watch it. Much prefer his British show "Kitchen Nightmares" on BBC America.

        1. It's TV. Horrible, but TV. But yes, it's an embarassment to those of us who can actually cook.

          1. I think it's amusing. Someone on Television Without Pity said they loved the show b/c the contestants were complete idiots that deserved to be lambasted by Gordon Ramsay. I have to admit that's why I like it. It's a guilty pleasure.

I don't think it actually undermines anything. You can learn some intersting things from Ramsay from the show. But otherwise it's almost a parody of Food TV competition shows. I would say Food TV has done far more to undermine food and it's preparation recently than this show has.
