Great Italian Food in Downingtown. I give it 5 out of 5 Meatballs!
The Italian Club in Downingtown has a restaurant called Luigi and Giovanni's. You do not need to be a member to eat there. I think you may need to be a member if you sit in the bar.(Not verified yet) TV's/Sports in the bar. Nice mature crowd.
It's one of those places that you don't want too many people knowing about. Food is ALWAYS excellent. Service is great. Attire is anything....but casual seems to be the generally accepted attire in the dining room. Never a wait for a table. I really think once people start "discovering" it like I did, then it'll be another story. Keep your eye on this one!
I give it five out of five Meatballs!
I rate it the BEST for Eggplant Parm and Roast Pork sandwiches. They have the hottest Italian long red peppers I have ever had...not the jalapenos like the other restaurants.
Plus...they do the basics very well. Gnocchi, meatballs, the parms, antipasta, etc. And of course they have the higher end stuff as well.
I have to say that their sauce is a home-style marinara...not this sweet canned tomato sauce stuff.
Like I said, I base my opinion on how well they do the basics. The table bread is fresh and crusty (I heard they bring it in from Philly or Conshy daily) and the table oil is a nice dark green extra virgin oil with real flavor.
I always leave with a doggie bag and enjoy it for lunch the next day. You always get "two" meals for the price of one.
Two people can eat AND drink like a king and queen for $30 or less.
Italian music playing (the way you want it. All the good stuff ie: Louie Prima, Dean Martin, Sinatra, Bocelli, Mario Lanza, etc)
Good service. A little out of the way...BUT...if you take the Rte. 30 bypass...you get there quick. There is also the SEPTA train station just a couple blocks from there if you dont feel like driving. You'd never find this place if I did not tell you about it.
The old Italian Clubs are the best but nobody ever thinks of going to them anymore. They are something from out of the past.
Banquets and events can be held in the big room upstairs as well.
