San Antonio: The Lodge in Castle Hills and other queries

Although I have spent a lot of time in San Antonio (even living there for 4 years) I've not experienced the Lodge in Castle Hills. Those who have: please comment on food, decor, atmosphere.

We will be several professional women in town for a seminar and celebrating a 50th birthday. How does TLCH compare to Biga on the Banks (we loved the old Biga) or Le Reve.

We love great food and don't mind paying for it and for some great wine, but we don't want an atmosphere too stuffy, either. While you are at it, comment on La Reve as well? Seems lovely, but a little too precious?

Thanks in advance and any other suggestions will be appreciated.

  1. La Reve is in a class of it's own when it comes to SA, only place in town requiring gentlemen to wear coats. The food and service has been superb on each of my past visits. Yes, it is expensive but worth every penny, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. The Lodge is also prix-fixe and in a lovely location. While not offering the constantly changing variety of menu options as La Reve, consistently excellent service and a delightful atmosphere has kept us going back several times since they opened. There are 5-6 rooms that each offer a unique charm. I can also heartily reccomend Bin 555 for a more casual atmosphere with the same great food and service.
As for Biga on the Banks, while the food has been very good during my past couple visits (since they left the Locust Street location), serious flaws on the service side do not lend themselves to the glowing reccomendation I give for your other two choices.
