TART is a RIPOFF

Went to Tart, the new restaurant in the Farmer's Daughter hotel the other night. Had read a few positive things about the breakfast and lunch menus -- and perhaps there are some redeeming qualities there. But for dinner, it is complete highway robbery.

We sat on the outdoor patio, which was really nice on a summer night. We had two cocktails and the brought out bread with great olive oil and delicious balsamic. This may have been the highlight. For starters, my brother had the crabcakes, which were passable. I had a spinich salad which was tossed with a dressing that seemed to be made of... oil and salt. There were a few chunks of chalky bleu cheese and about 5 candied walnuts. For the second course, bro got the chicken on tagliatelle. The piece of chicken he got resembled a tiny game-hen. The skin of the bird was rubbery and not crisp, the meat bland. The pasta was drenched in a super heavy cream sauce that was seeped in tarragon flavor. Overpowering and not nuanced at all. At least the pasta itself was cooked perfectly al dente. I had the blackened swordfish -- thinking I was going to eat something relatively healthy. Imagine my chagrin when a huge platter shows up covered with foaming melted butter and electric orange oil. The fish was blackened to the point that is sapped all the flavor from the fish. It was perched on what would have been a really delicious corn/green bean/jalepeno salad, but it too was coated and glistening with buttery oil. It was like the whole thing was cloaked in ghee. We didn't order dessert or coffee.

And then the check arrived.

BEFORE TIP: $100. After tip and valet: $125 for dinnner for two. (2 apps, 2 entrees, 3 cocktails.)

I kept thinking about all the sushi that would have bought, or how many plates at AOC we could have gotten... And I left unsatisfied and hungry!

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
