For some reason, I really like the Monte Christo sandwich at Bennigan's.
Can't really explain it ... it's not really special in any particular way ... went again today and once again pleasantly surprised ... found out also that there is a "new" iteration of this sandwich called the "O'Connor Monte Christo" ... another reason to go back in addition to the Big 1 lbs Irish Burger ....
Anyone else like Bennigan's or am I just crazy?
Worked at one back in the day , prep cook . At the one I worked at , they actually ran a pretty tight ship , and cranked out some good food , for what it was . I was young , learned quite a bit . Nothing like getting shoved on the grill station on a Friday night to make you learn how to grill efficently . ( Or go home crying .) I was efficent and still am . Anyway , yes , in full agreement about the mighty Count of the deep fryer , my doctor would probably have to triple my Zocor , but a damn good guilty pleasure . ( Sheepishly ) I used to dip mine in Ranch mixed with Tabasco . Sorry to let the world know that .
The first and only time I was exposed to Bennegans was when I was in college when I left the upscale west side of Los Angeles for the working class city of Syracuse, NY .
It was my first time to have ever tried fried cheese. Yum, I was never the same again.
I went to an Orlando Bennigan's, my first, last year the day after Hurricane Wilma hit. We had come from Stuart, where power had been restored but the few restaurants that were open literally had nothing to serve. Therefore, Bennigan's was manna from heaven for us. :-) The broccoli bites were AWESOME!!
