Let's say you are traveling and you have a great lunch but it is huge and you have leftovers and for logistical reasons you won't be going to your car for a number of hours. Can you ask the restaurant to hold your doggie bag? Is this a really eccentric idea or is this done?

you might have better luck asking them to give you a bag full of ice, and another plastic bag with the food in it.

Nah, it's easier to just stick it in the walk-in.

It shouldn't be a problem.

I'd just be afraid it'd get thrown away. A couple of times we asked for a doggie bag before leaving and the food accidentally got thrown out before it even made it into the bag. So if you leave it there a few hours, I figure you have exponentally even more chance of it happening.

We did just that last Mother's Day at a fancy hotel's restaurant because we wanted to take a walk on the beach before going home. The staff was very nice about it.

You really want to eat at a restaurant that does this?

For Health Department reasons, I would hope this isn't a regular practice.

I can't imagine much skeevier than a reach in full of other people's doggie bags. Think leakagae, etc.

Yes, I would eat in a restaurant that would do this. I am sure they don't get many requests to do this as it was an upscale joint; however the health code issue did cross my mind and that is why I refrained from asking in the first place.
