I spent the Thanksgiving holiday with a friend who used cloth napkins, kept in rings, for our meals. This reminded me of a long-ago visit in Germany, where we kept our cloth napkins in fabric envelopes.

Has anyone else used the envelopes? I tried a brief internet search but couldn't find a source for buying or making.

Oh, wow, I remember embroidering these when I was in elementary school in Italy. Never seen them used in real life, though. The concept now seems sort of un-American - stowing away soiled linen for re-use - doesn't it?
