I don't think they fully disclose the "points", value. After all how many points will you get on your driving record when the cops pull you over for driving under the influence of rotgut?

It's especially stupid since all wine has only two WW points, and this wine has one -- and undoubtedly lower alcohol content. Much easier to make a spritzer with soda water or drink a bit less GOOD wine.

The times I've done Weight Watchers, I have carefully avoided all their branded products and stuck with looking up points for my favorite brands or varieties. The group leader we had in Nashville was pretty dismissive of all the WW stuff - her take on it was that this was not supposed to be traumatic, or punishment of any kind, so eat carefully but eat well...which went for drinking, too.

Wow, that is the dumbest Weight Watchers product I've seen yet, and that is really saying something. Wine is already a good deal in terms of points because it contains no fat. The diet is (somewhat irrationally in my view) set up to penalize you for eating fat, no matter what kind it is. So there is no reason to buy their special wine; you can have several glasses of any kind of wine each week without cutting into your points budget too much.

Not sure how recently you've done WW, but in my experience (I first did WW about 10 years ago), this is not the case. It encourages low-fat, but never no fat, and in a flexible plan like WW, you literally could eat all your daily calories in fat and still be "on program," so long as you don't exceed your allotted points for a given day.

I started WW this year and am still tracking points-- some days. Anyway, depending on how mach fat and fiber, respectively, are in your food, I've calculated that you can be eating less than 900 or more then 1500 calories on 20 points. There are 100 calorie foods that are 1 point and others that are 3. I don't find I can stick to the diet and eat much in the way of fat.

That's interesting. The WW points formula, to my knowledge, basically takes calories, fat, and fiber into consideration.

I agree that high fat foods will use up your points pretty quickly. However, a diet high in those foods, even within the points scale, will not be consistent with other directives of the WW plan, such as consuming 6 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, eating whole grains regularly, and eating low-fat or non-fat dairy products. The idea, after all, is to modify your eating behavior in a healthier overall direction. Gaming the points is not the point.

I agree. I find that on the whole it's a sound program but I still feel that you shouldn't take such a heavy points hit for healthy fats. Now that I'm more or less on maintenance, the main thing I've changed is that I'm eating more olive oil and stuff like that.

Wow, that just looks nasty; worse than boone's farm.

Wine is 2 points for only 4 oz., which is not a lot (IMHO). So it does add up pretty quickly if you drink a "normal" sized glass. When I did WW, I could burn thru a significant number of my points with a couple of glasses of wine. No matter how many points "real" wine is, it could never be too much to justify drinking THAT!
