Strawberries and Pepper

While traveling in Montreal last week, I had a delicious amuse.

In a shot glass they served cold pureed strawberries with a dash of black pepper stirred-in.

I never would have thought to put these two together, but it was delicious.

Pink pepper can be nice with fruit as well. Haven't tried green.

I have certainly seen peppered pineapple (warmed under the broiler) served as a dessert.

At a local farmers market last weekend a vendor was selling strawberry and black pepper preserves...thought it sounded awful...tried a bite... bought three jars.

One of my favorite desserts in the summer when strawberries are local....sliced strawberries, cracked pepper, and balsamic vinegar. I know it sounds weird, but OH is it good!!!

let it stew overnight (the version with the balsamic) and then serve it over a nice simple pannacotta. killer.
