Last week while I was on vacation I made an iced coffee - but I wanted some fizz- so I added some diet coke. It was good. Then I took some diet coke over ice and added some half and half- really, really good! You only need a little of the milk product so this gives you a lot of fizzy goodness for little calories. I am addicted.

I thought this was common. Maybe it was an Eastern US thing.

Ok, this will make me sound older than I am, but the corner pharmacy had a soda fountain. A vanilla coke was made with Coke, vanilla syrup and a just enough milk to harmonize everything and take the harsh edge off the Coke.

A chocolate coke was similarily made with coke, chocolate syrup and a shot of chocolate milk.

When I moved to Calif, I was couldn't believe no one put milk in vanilla cokes.

Then you could go crazy and turn both these into coke floats with a scoop of ice cream on top.

Cherry cokes didn't have milk though.

A vanilla soda was seltzer, milk and vanilla syrup. I really miss that place. They had the best strawberry ice cream sodas. I still remember the taste of that strawberry ice cream. It could have been Bordon's or Litchfield Farms ... but when either was good and used real cream, strawberries and sugar to make the ice cream.

That should tell me that perhaps I was born with Chowhound tendancies. Like how many kids know the brand of ice cream used in their ice cream sodas, especially umpteen years ago.

Correct. It was Pepsi and Milk.

I had been drinking that concoction since I stumbled upon it as a kid in the early 60's - I think I was trying to make an egg cream and it got twisted, somehow, but as they say - necessity is the mother of invention...

That is a trip in the way back machine . My great-grandmother used to serve us pepsi and milk WAY before Laverne or Shirley or whichever one it was had it . I think she knew back then that too much pop was not good for the children , so she cut it with pure , wholesome milk . Thing was , she drank it all the time too . It was ok , but I preferred my Pepsi straight up , cold . Still do , in fact .
