Bhutanese food?
I know there are a few Nepalese and Tibetan restaurants around the Bay Area, but does anyone know of a place for Bhutanese food? Craving ewa datse, red rice, etc.

Are there no restaurants in the Bay Area that serve Bhutanese food? How about in the rest of California?

Apparently not. To support an ethnic restaurant, you need either a fairly sizable community or a fairly large number of people who have travelled to the area and want to relive the food. I don't think Bhutan meets either criterion in the Bay Area.

Embassies and consulates can be good sources for tracking down authentic preparations and enterprising ex-pats in the restaurant trade. While the US does not have formal diplomatic relations with Bhutan, there is an honorary consul in San Francisco.

Thanks! I'll look around a bit, and remain hopeful. :)

Please keep us posted...I'm very curious now. I asked recently at a Nepalese place if they made any Bhutanese dishes, but, no.

ABA, The Association for Bhutanese in America sponsors events in the Bay Area from time to time for the local Bhutanese community. On August 15th 2010 in Berkeley they will sponsor the 1st annual Festival of Bhutan featuring entertainment and food of Bhutan all cooked by the local community. This will be a great opportunity to try some of these unique dishes.
