My new obsession is a Ginger Spread made by a company called "Ginger People." Its drier than a jam, and sweeter then a marmalade. It tastes great on toast, oatmeal or whatever. Has anyone seen it? I bought it a few months ago at my co-op but they don't have it anymore and said they won't be getting it.

Thanks for posting this! I just bought some of the ginger chews at TJs and absolutely love them! I highly recommend them to anyone who seriously likes ginger. I'm tempted to buy a whole bunch as presents for my friends, but the last time I took someone something ginger -- really yummy ginger tea -- she didn't like it at all (and gave it back, so much better than throwing it out). So I'll just have to shop for myself... ;-)

This could be the answer to my long-missed Ginger Puree from Trader Joe's! I don't know when I'll learn that if I find something I really like there, I should buy half a dozen. Thanks very much!

Pat, exact same thought I had when I saw the Ginger People's Ginger Puree at Table and Vine in western MA this weekend. I have the Williams-Sonoma jar, but the price is just crazy, so I picked up a jar of the Ginger People's version. If I try it soon, I'll post it here.

Yep, the old Trader Joe switcheroo, just get you completely hooked on something and it disappears. They had a chunky eggplant spread in a jar that was unbelievable. I would spread butter and fresh garlic on good La Brea Bakery bread, toast, then spread with the eggplant and top with another Trader Joes product a grated cheese mixture that I think was called pizzarella or something with pizza in the title and pop back in the oven to melt/brown. It made one of the simplest and most delicious appetizers I ever concocted. People licked the pan. All gone, never to re-appear simply because the ingredients were too specific to Trader Joes. They did away several products I loved, their saffron (although the finally brought that back after a couple of years), these little chocolate violins or guitars that were unbelievable. Still dream about them.

What Trader Joes past products do people still miss?

Trader Joe's now has something called "Ginger Spread" - I just bought some last week in Northern California - I wonder if it's the same stuff? If you like ginger, it is really, really good. I want to come up with some desserts that use it, but I think I might just end up eating it on a spoon.
