one is an egg shell cutter. I've seen it on Martha's show. I know they exist. Yet a search in Google and Yahoo both turned up nothing. It's a tool that will make a neat cut cut on the shell so I can use the shell as a bowl itself.

Second is a individual small mince pie tin. My British friend said she brought hers from England. And she can't find them in stores here in the U.S. I don't even know what they look like.

Anyone online shops that might carry either/both?

I didn't search for "egg topper" maybe that's why I didn't find anything.

Although the description from Sur La Table doesn't say it's anything but a pair of chicken shaped scissors. I wonder if it'll make neat cuts. It looks different than the one Martha was using.

But thanks, now I have one source if none other turns up.

I have a cheap "squeeze" egg topper that looks like the one in the picture below. I like it, but it makes uneven cuts and sometimes leaves little pieces. So it would take some post-cut cleanup to create nice-looking egg bowls.

Zyliss makes a fancier version of this style of topper; I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it works any better.

So now I want that amazing "Clack" topper that Jess mentioned!

Anne

"individual mince pie tin" - how does that differ from a regular pie tin. We use a sheet with "pie" indentations to make individually sized mince pies - with cut outs of pastry dough on the top, not a full "lid". I think I got mine at WS.

A former SO's mother was from UK and had the mince pie tins you're asking about, circa 1950s. They're shallower than muffin tins. I couldn't find them in any cooking supply store on the 'net when I was actively looking a couple years ago, but I DID find them on eBay. You can even look on eBay-UK.

Write an email asking if they'll ship to the US. I've purchased things on the French and UK sites and most sellers are happy to oblige for a little extra S/H money. Otherwise, it's just like bidding on the N. American eBay; if they take PayPal, the currency conversion is automatic.

for what it's worth, i made mince pies last year using a regular muffin tin. you just cut a circle of pastry the size you want (i used a saucer as a guide), then gently press it into the molds--it won't come up to the top, but they will be the right size for mince pies.

for easy removal, i put a thin strip of parchment into each mold before pressing in the pastry. worked like a charm, and the pies were really good. it really isn't as much fuss as it sounds...and i hate buying single-purpose gadgets and such.
