In the tea aisle of a local Chinese market, I noticed a box of artichoke tea(bags). Its ingredients were artichoke extract, sugar, and glucose. So, has anyone had this brew? And why does it exist? (No health claims were in evidence on the package). I love artichokes, but I don't see them making a particularly lovely tisane.

My mom gave me some artichoke tea bags or "tra atiso" from Vietnam. I found it interesting...light, woody, mild sweetness. Gentle and soothing on the tummy. There was a distinct but subtle artichoke flavor. After a few times though, I found the sweetener in it (not sure what it was exactly) to be overpowering and artificial tasting.

That said, quality does vary across brands. I tried another loose tea she had that tasted much better and more natural. Not as sweet w/ a more potent artichoke flavor. Don't know the brand though. I think it's worth exploring if you buy something of good to better quality. Please report back on any discoveries...
