The Quorn meat crumbles and the chicken tenders work great in all kinds of recipes, and are probably the least 'scary' for non-vegetarians. Thank you.

i love quorn.. the best of all fake meats, in my opinion.

but you know what is the best? those vegan "field roasts" they sell in the frozen section of whole foods.

a homemade lentil loaf is hard to beat, too.

i'll have to try that "field roast" you're talking about! i'm a fan of quorn roast as a turkey substitute myself. my parents, who both eat meat, like it too. i have never liked any of the other fake turkey products i have tasted (except tofurkey slices when in a sandwich). i have tried tofurkey and the zen brand one in the past. both were nasty, in my opinion.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I really liked the Field Roast "Celebration Roast".
We just slice it and eat it cold.
Very tasty -- it has some sort of butternut/apple "stuffing."
Available at Whole Foods and (of course) Berkeley Bowl.

So do you not even need to cook it? (since you serve
it cold?)

I hope I can find it. Looks like Whole Foods near us are not listed, but Mollie Stones might carry it.
Thanks so much to everyone for the reviews & links! :-)

My husband & I have also tried the Tofurkey and Zen's "Unturkey" and agree that both are only average at best. You could think about making your own seitan roast, though. Either use a mix or get a box of "vital wheat gluten". It's very easy--I've started making seitan strips about once per week.
