I stumbled upon Ekstra, the Lithuanian Weisse-style beer at Trader Joe's and found it very refreshing and drinkable, seems like a good summer beer choice

I like Weihenstephan Kristall Weiss, Erdinger Kristall Weiss, Paulaner Hefe-Weissen, and Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss which are all Weiss biers. The "kristall" designation of the first two biers indicates that they have been filtered and do not have the typical cloudiness of Weisse biers. They are very crisp and bright tasting, very refreshing on a hot day. The Paulaner and Franziskaner biers are the more typical cloudy weisse biers.

I meant to mention that I like to eat pickled herring in sour cream sauce (I eat a commercial product made by Leske) while drinking the Kristall Weiss biers I cite above, the bier served in a gracefully curving, full bellied, tall Erdinger glass. After mowing the lawn on a hot Texas afternoon, this is a very satisfying treat.

I second the Franziskaner, and add the Widmer Hefe-Weissen. Both are very refreshing, and great for a hot day.

Nothing beats my freshly homebrewed hefeweizen, but my favorite commercial hefes are:

Weihenstephaner
Julius Echter
Hacker-Pschorr Weisse
Franziskaner (Spaten)
Ayinger Brau Weisse
Mahr's Weisse
Schneider Weisse
Schneider Edel Weisse
Kapuzinger Gold
Ramstein blond (small brewery in NJ)
Ramstein Classic (the best dunkleweizen I have had)
Paulaner

Then there are the strong weizens:

Aventinus (Schneider) Weizenbock
Mahr's Weisse bock
Ramstein Winter Wheat

My favorite is Hacker-Pschorr, also. Don't underestimate some of the craft-brewed domestics, either. Here in MSP, we have Gluek's (pronounced Glick's) honey weiss. Quite yummy.

Also remember the the only correct answer to "what's your favorite beer?" is... "the one in my hand!"

I like Hoegaarden, a Belgian Witbier. It has a beautiful off-white color, the light crispness of a wheat beer and a complex, fruity flavor that is distinctly Belgian.
It is the perfect drink for a Sunday afternoon.

I am just grateful that Harpoon's UFO has become a standard tap offering in many restaurants in the Boston area. Not as great as the German offerings, but it will more than do in a pinch.

Now, if someone will just tell Harpoon that lemon goes best with kristall, not hefe....
