Does anyone know if they still make it or where it can be purchased?
It was one of my favorite thirst quenchers and a terrific mixer.</content>

<content>I have begged grocers and liquor stores owners in the Long Beach (California) area to order this for me... to no avail. I'm not sure why, but Bitter Lemon was readily available in California ten, twelve years ago, then.... poof! Disappeared. Is it the quinine or something? I've always meant to follow up with the Schwepps people but never got around to it.

<content>I thought it was in Eagle Rock, too, when we went there a few months ago after touring the Judson Studios in Highland Park. It's past Occidental College and way towards Avenue 64 or where Colorado Boulevard turns into La Loma Road. That's where Eagle Rock is (and sort of the start of Pasadena, too).

Gelco's (The Soda Pop Shop) has a deli inside also, but nothing to write home about. In fact, it was pretty bad (as in bad tasting for even retro '50s potato salad and mac salad and rolled turkey on an airy french roll that slips out with every bite of with mayo and yellow mustard). Anyway, Galco's does have just about any flavor of soda you have ever heard of. The place is more than a "dive" - but it does have soda product. Seems he's a real enthusiast that maybe puts any profit into import or shipping costs because his coolers look like they are from the 60's and two or three of them are out of order and still taking up space on the floor in the corner at the end of the deli. So, I guess what I am saying is - be sure and wash your containers before drinking from them as you probably don't know what condition of warehouse they came from (maybe rat infested in some country).

But, Gelco's is probably a one-of-a-kind collection of sodas.</content>

<content>Here in Mexico, we also have Fresca (yes, a CocaCola product). It's available in the regular grapefruit flavor and my personal favorite, *toronja rosada* (pink grapefruit), which tastes just like a Texas Ruby Red.

The big difference is that in Mexico, Fresca is not a sugar-free soft drink--it has all the sugar of a regular soft drink, and twice the flavor.</content>

Never get too thirsty, actually. I think I would like it even more if I could get the version with real sugar, I can't believe that my stomach is handling the fake stuff. And the pink grapefruit sounds even better. People seem amazed whe they see I have Fresca, maybe we can start a new fad?</content>

<content>" Is it the quinine or something? "

Very possibly a reason products containing it were limited or discontinued. They removed quinine products containing it (for relief of leg cramps) from drug store shelves ("Leg-A-Trin" or something).

But, now quinine seems to be allowed back on the shelves (Hyland's homeopathic "Leg Cramps" formula, "improved with quinine").

Maybe they were rationing quinine for a while for Malaria outbreaks in Africa or something.</content>

With taxes, two different CRVs, handling, and UPS ground shipping, the price to deliver a case to Los Angeles adds up to $62.14, or roughly $2.60 per 10-ounce bottle. I may have to sign up as a distributor!

<content>If you live in the LA area, then you can just drive to them. Galco's is in the Pasadena/Glendale area. The place can be addictive for soda lovers. If you're going to visit enough, consider getting the case card. It's $25 but its good for $5 off a case, good for 10 cases. Mix and match on the cases. My first visit there, I bought three cases so thought an additional $10 would be worth the card.

They also have a deli counter. Try getting a sandwich, grab one of the many choices from the cold case and eat at the tables in front of the cash register. Good way to fortify yourself before a shopping trip. </content>

P.S. This actually happened. I ordered a Vodka and Bitter Lemon at a place in Chesapeake City MD. and the kiddie waitress and kiddie bartender obviously had never heard of it. So instead of telling me, they served me a Vodka with a very healthy pour of Agnostura bitters and the juice of a lemon. Not exactly refreshing.....
