How long does cooked chicken keep?

This may be pretty basic, but how long does cooked chicken keep in the fridge before you have to chuck it? I just got a bunch of boneless skinless and was thinking of grilling some of it to keep around for quick salads.

It depends on how cold you keep your frig (many people don't keep their frig terribly cold) and making sure you keep it in the coldest part of your frig. And the less air around it in the container, the better.

Under good conditions, I would say up to a week or so. I've done that for years with no problem

If you want to keep it longer, grill it, slice it, then freeze the slices. Then you can take out as much/little as you want.

I do that all the time for my wife's lunch salads.

Suggest a Food Saver vacuum sealer...chicken will keep 2-3 weeks in the fridge, 2-3 months in the freezer.

i usually just rely on taste and appearance of food to figure out whether it's safe for consumption. have faith in your senses. :) i don't want to freak anyone out but that's how it's done in commercial kitchens too. i have plenty of horror stories to share but i will keep it for another time.
